Teacher/Aide/Director’s Assistant
August 2010-current
I currently work at First United
Methodist Preschool in Slidell, Louisiana.
I work with children ages 4 and 5.
In our classroom we use dramatic play, songs, games and formal
instruction and instruct my students in basic skills. I help them learn to write their names at the
beginning of school till January. After
January all the children will have learned to write their name with little to
no help on their papers. In the classroom I have the ability to communicate,
inspire trust and confidence, and motivate students, as well as an
understanding of the students' educational and emotional needs. I recognize and
respond to individual and cultural differences in the students and employ
different teaching methods that will result in higher student achievement. I am
organized, dependable, patient, and creative. I also am able to work
cooperatively and communicate effectively with other teachers, support staff,
parents, and members of the community. We have monthly planning meetings to help with
implementing a curriculum that covers various areas of a child’s development,
such as motor skills, social and emotional development, and language
development. I have introduced children
to reading and writing, expanded vocabulary, creative arts, science, and social
studies. We use music, games, artwork, books and other tools to teach concepts
and skills. I’ve used rhyming and acting games and storytelling to
help further language and vocabulary.
I’ve also had children work together to help build something as a “team”
to help improve social skills. I work
with children one-on-one to help those who need that extra “push” to help them
get on track. Letter recognition,
phonics, numbers, and awareness of nature and science are also introduced to help
prepare my students for kindergarten.
